Amendola in Moscow, second meeting of the anti-terrorism working group

The second meeting of the inter-ministerial Russian-Italian working group on combatting global challenges was held this morning in Moscow. It was jointly chaired by the Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Vincenzo Amendola and the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, Oleg Syromolotov. The Italian delegation included senior officials from the ministries of Foreign Affairs,  the Interior, Infrastructure and Transport, and ENAC (Italian Civil Aviation Authority) and the National Anti-Mafia and Anti-terrorism Prosecutor’s Office. 

They discussed the threat from Islamic terrorism, how to combat the phenomenon of foreign fighters, extremism and radicalisation and co-operation in tackling organised crime, including cyber security.

Undersecretary Amendola said: “Our co-operation in the face of international challenges has an immediate and tangible effect on the security of our citizens. We believe that the bilateral relationship with the Russian Federation is also of primary importance in this area.” The first meeting of the working group was held in Rome in October last year.
