Vancouver Conference. Alfano: “Italy will be present”

“Italy will attend the Vancouver Conference on the Korean Peninsula on 16 January to favour the efforts of the international community to find a diplomatic solution to the crisis,” said Minister Alfano today.

“The recent resolutions unanimously adopted by the Security Council have confirmed the broad cohesion and consensus on the goal of complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization. The meeting of 9 January between North and South Korea will possibly open new spaces. But it is necessary to continue effectively exercising pressure on the North Korean regime to convince it to abandon the road to self-isolation and get back into the course of international legality.”
Minister Alfano continued: “We started working in this direction last year, during our Chairmanship of the UN Sanctions Committee. In this perspective, we intend to contribute to the debate in Vancouver, so as to promote, together with our partners, a future of peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula.”
