Italy is internationally committed to fighting all forms of racism, xenophobia and intolerance
Italy is internationally committed to fighting all forms of racism, xenophobia and intolerance. Cases of racial discrimination continue to be reported in Europe and in the world, representing a serious threat to every individual’s fundamental human rights and liberties. These cases also jeopardise the possibility of a peaceful coexistence in the societies in which they arise and require a great effort by the international community in order to prevent and combat them.
On the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, Italy reaffirms its international commitment, which is underpinned by its staunch support and promotion of the broadest possible adhesion to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, which our Country ratified in 1976.
Combating all forms of discrimination, including racial discrimination, remains key to Italy’s international action on the issue of human rights, both at multilateral level, as within the UN, EU, Council of Europe and OSCE, and also at bilateral level. It is also a priority in Italy’s candidacy to the United Nations Human Rights Council for 2019-2021.
