Expo Dubai

The Italian Government has established the Italian General Commissioner’s Office of Section for Italian participation in EXPO 2020 Dubai with the responsibility of assisting the Commissioner General in planning and organising the Italian participation in the first Universal Exhibition to take place in the Arab world. “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future” is the theme of Dubai’s exhibition, in which 180 countries are expected to participate with over 25 million visitors, of which 70% will come from abroad. Paolo Glisenti was appointed Commissioner General of the Office of Section at EXPO 2020 Dubai with a decree from the President of the Council of Ministers on a proposal from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Following the establishment of the Italian General Commissioner’s Office of Section for the Italian participation in EXPO 2020 Dubai, Stefano Ravagnan, former Italian Ambassador to Kazakhstan and General Commissioner for 2017 Expo Astana, was appointed Adjunct Commissioner General of the Office of Section, while Andrea Marin was appointed Administrative Director.
As its first act, the General Commissioner’s Office of Section opened its website today: www.italiaexpo2020dubai.it.
A national competition of ideas will soon be opened to everyone for the  creation of the ‘logo’ that in the months ahead will identify the Italian project in Expo 2020 Dubai. The logo will accompany us on our path to the event scheduled to take place from 20 October 2020 to 10 April 2021. It will mark the identity of the Italian Pavilion, which is to be built on the Expo site and will showcase the products of excellence of Italian creativity. The website provides an exhaustive description of the Italian project for EXPO 2020 Dubai.

As of today, the website has opened the selection of personnel, that will make up  the ‘team’ of the General Commissioner’s Office of Section. Proposals to provide professional services for specific areas of activities can be submitted.

In the next few months the General Commissioner’s Office of Section will launch a competition of ideas for the architectural design of the Pavilion.
Italy’s contract to participate in the Expo 2020 Dubai was signed by Paolo Glisenti on 19 January, 2018 in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, Abdallah bin Zayed.  Italy’s participation was formally confirmed by the Italian Government to the UAE on 16 November 2016.

Recently the organisers of  EXPO 2020 DUBAI approved the theme of the Italian project, “Creativity, Connection, Competence”, highlighting that it speaks of ” an extraordinary Italian Pavilion through the event and a strong legacy for the future image” of our country. Italy was the first among the G7 countries to formally confirm its participation in the EXPO. Therefore, the approval of its project theme completes the commitments made with UAE authorities and the EXPO organizers regarding the first implementation phase of Italian participation.
