Italy has officially become member of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) with the status of Associate Observer. The membership was celebrated at the Summit of the Community’s Heads of State and Government that is being held in Cape Verde today and tomorrow.
Italy has tight historical, political, cultural and economic ties with the Community’s single member Countries and traditionally harbours great interest for the Portuguese language and culture, nurtured by the common Latin origin of the Italian and Portuguese languages. Italy’s membership in the CPLP as Associate Observer will consolidate the aforesaid interest, favour the development of joint projects, strengthen economic and trade relations with Member States and foster further friendship and cooperation relationships.
