Minister Moavero summoned the Egyptian Ambassador to the Farnesina

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Enzo Moavero Milanesi, today formally summoned to the Farnesina the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Italy, Hisham Badr, to prompt him to urge Egyptian Authorities to act quickly to honour the commitment made at top political level to get justice for the brutal murder of Giulio Regeni. Minister Moavero emphasised how the outcome of the meeting between Italian and Egyptian magistrates held in Cairo a few days ago has raised great unrest in Italy. Although acknowledging the Egyptian Ambassador’s reassurances on the will to continue with the judicial cooperation between the two Prosecutors’ Offices, Minister Moavero expressed the need for Italy to see tangible progress made in the investigations.

Minister Moavero newly recalled that the search of the truth and finding the perpetrators of the ruthless crime remain a priority for Italian Institutions.

The Egyptian Ambassador assured that his Government’s commitment to shed light on the case is unquestionable, that judicial cooperation must absolutely continue, as reaffirmed at the last meeting in Cairo, and that the Egyptian Authorities intend to continue investigating the case despite the difficulties encountered.
