In delivering his statement this morning at the “Summit of the Two Shores” of the Mediterranean, in Marseille, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Enzo Moavero Milanesi, underlined “the importance of the Mediterranean region. Firstly, as a place where different and complementary peoples and cultures, which have been interacting for millennia, meet and have a dialogue. Secondly, as a great economic opportunity, given that 20% of world trade crosses this area”. The Minister specified that “it is imperative to implement a sustainable and durable development model, based on collaboration among the Nations bordering the Mediterranean Sea.
This requires a strong political will to guarantee peace and stability in the region, in order to invest in the necessary infrastructures and interconnections, to tackle migration flows. “On this basis – concluded Minister Moavero – we must work together in loyal friendship, in order to pursue an economic and employment growth that rigorously guarantees social rights and protects the environment and public health. Therefore, Italy is ready to carry out the specific tasks entrusted to it, within the framework of the follow-up to the Marseille Summit: safeguarding the agri-food supply chain and its quality, circular and green economy, effective consumer protection”.
