Italy re-elected to the ICAO Council

At the 40th General Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) held in Montreal on 28 September, Italy was re-elected to a Part 1 seat on the Organization’s Council (reserved for the 11 contracting States of chief importance to air transport) for the 2020-2022 three-year period.

Our Country received 160 votes out of a total of 168 voters, thus confirming to be one of the most voted Countries to the Council together with China. The other Countries elected to Part 1 seats together with Italy are Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Russian Federation, France, Germany, Japan, United Kingdom and United States.

Italy’s flattering track record as a member of the ICAO Council ever since its establishment testifies to our Country’s primary importance in the field of civil aviation and our unrelenting commitment to increase the quality and security of air transport.

The new Council elected at the ongoing Assembly (the election of Part 3 members is scheduled for 1 October) in November will be called on to elect the new President of the Organization’s Council (for the 2020-2022 three-year period), an office for which Italy has put forth the candidacy of engineer Salvatore Sciacchitano.
