Undersecretary Di Stefano chairs the Fifth Italy-Azerbaijan Intergovernmental Commission

Undersecretary Manlio Di Stefano chaired today at the Farnesina (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) the work of the Fifth Session of the Intergovernmental Commission between Italy and Azerbaijan on Economic Cooperation, together with the Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov.

“Italy is Azerbaijan’s first global trading partner with an exchange in 2018 of 5.8 billion euros” – stated the Undersecretary – “The country is among our top 3 energy suppliers in the world and the first supplier of crude oil, and we are creating new business and investment opportunities for our companies. The first results have already been seen in 2019, which marked a +15% of our exports. Our companies can give a crucial contribution to the development of ongoing infrastructure projects in Azerbaijan. This is also why I had a bilateral meeting with Minister Parviz Shahbazov.  Azerbaijan is embarking on a huge national reform that will give great opportunities for trade and investment, I am sure that Italian companies will be able to seize the potential also thanks to this privileged political relationship”.

At the end of the work, a final protocol was signed by the co-Presidents, in which the state of the bilateral economic and commercial partnership is photographed, and the areas of future collaboration are identified. The two sides stressed the importance of the forthcoming State visit of Azerbaijani President Aliyev and related economic events.
