Undersecretary Manlio Di Stefano has had an interview with his Georgian counterpart Vakhtang Makharoblishvili who expressed his closeness to Italy and expressed his condolences for the Italian Covid-19 victims.
Among the main issues addressed were the impact of Covid-19 on the economy, the state of bilateral cooperation, relations with the EU and NATO, with confirmation of the strong Italian support for the partnership with Tbilisi. The Undersecretary underlined the strong Italian support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia and the process of its European integration.
The Georgian Deputy Minister has confirmed that his country will reopen to international tourism from 1st July and expressed the hope for close coordination with Italy and the EU in this regard. The Undersecretary has underlined how the health standards and protocols set by the EU for the relaunch of tourism can represent models that can be replicated by other countries, with the aim of protecting both tourists and citizens.
Evoking the success of the two previous Italian-Georgian Business Forums, Mr Di Stefano and Mr Makharoblishvili have called for a relaunch of economic cooperation and political dialogue between Italy and Georgia through the next appointments, including the planned political consultations between Foreign Ministries.
