Minister Di Maio meets Beccari, Secretary of State of the Republic of San Marino

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, met today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (the Farnesina), the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, International Economic Cooperation and Telecommunications of the Republic of San Marino, Luca Beccari.

During the meeting, Di Maio and Beccari reaffirmed the historic friendship and closeness between the two countries. They also agreed that the dialogue should continue with a level of deepening appropriate to the close geographical, economic, and social interconnection of the two countries.

After a full review of the main open dossiers in the economic-financial, cultural, energy, transport, and telecommunications fields, it was agreed to convene, as soon as possible, the Joint Commission (Commissione Mista). The Commission will be chaired, on the Italian side, by Deputy Minister Scalfarotto and will carry out a detailed analysis thus ensuring a high level of direct exchanges among the various competent Administrations.

Minister Di Maio then renewed the Italian support to the conclusion of an Association Agreement between the European Union and the Republic of San Marino, in the framework of the ongoing negotiations between the EU and the small European States. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Secretary of State Beccari then reaffirmed their commitment to long-standing collaboration in every multilateral context, commencing with the United Nations.

Finally, they discussed the perspectives for the participation of the Republic of San Marino in the different cooperation formats of the Adriatic-Ionian area, including the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative to which San Marino had already joined in 2019.
