Deputy Minister Ivan Scalfarotto, just days before the formation of the new government of Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, personally visited Belgrade to reaffirm Italy’s support for Serbia’s process of accession to the European Union and to encourage the new government to continue with determination on the path of reforms and dialogue with Pristina. During his meetings with Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic and the Minister for European Integration Jadranka Joksimovic, mutual satisfaction was expressed for the excellent state of bilateral affairs, of strategic importance for both parties. Mr. Scalfarotto congratulated Prime Minister Brnabic for her innovative government, made up of 50% of women ministers and featuring the creation of a Ministry for Human Rights and Minorities, as a strong signal of adherence to the common values of the EU Member States.
The visit continued at the Italian Embassy, where the Deputy Minister met with the Italian business community, in connection with the presentation of the “Guide for Italian Businesses in Serbia”. “A prosperous and stable Balkan region, permanently attached to the EU and which wholeheartedly subscribes to its values is in our best interests”, Mr. Scalfarotto declared, “and Italy is firmly committed to achieving this goal, together with the people of Serbia, as friends of our country and similar to us in so many ways”.
