Deputy Minister Della Vedova meets Slovak Secretary of State Brocková

Today Deputy Minister Benedetto Della Vedova received the Secretary of State of the Slovak Republic, Ingrid Brocková at the Foreign Affairs Ministry. The meeting centred on bilateral relations and cooperation in a multi-lateral and European setting, especially on the migration question, the priority of the Italian Presidency of the Council of Europe’s Ministerial Committee.

The meeting opened with Mr Della Vedova and Ms Brocková agreeing on the need to work together to safeguard the principles of the rule of law and human rights, within effective multilateralism and sound transatlantic cooperation.

The Deputy Minister reiterated the need to strengthen cooperation on the migratory question within Europe. “We appreciate the constructive spirit shown by Foreign Minister Korčok on his recent visit to Rome We are convinced that Slovakia can play a facilitating role in negotiating the new Pact on Migration and Asylum, which must lead to us managing this phenomenon in a more balanced way, that relieves the pressure on arrival Countries, also by means of adequate reallocation plans”.

Mr Della Vedova and Ms Brocková went on to agree on the need to continue with an active, credible commitment to expanding the EU to the western Balkans, by first overcoming stalling in the path to European membership of Albania and North Macedonia. In this regard, it is important to also valorise regional cooperation tools, like the Central European Incentive (InCE).
