Minister Di Maio will travel to Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Qatar and Pakistan from Friday on a mission.
The mission is part of the international initiatives undertaken by Italy to address the Afghan crisis and its consequences on the country’s population.
In his contacts with the authorities of Afghanistan’s neighbouring countries, Minister Di Maio will address the most recent developments and regional stability. Particular attention will then be paid to the issue of Afghan refugees and displaced persons, aiming to explore solutions to facilitate, in cooperation with neighbouring countries, humanitarian assistance for Afghan refugees in the countries of the region.
The visit to Qatar will make it possible to thank the local authorities for the crucial assistance provided to Italy in the operations to relocate from Afghanistan, examine in-depth the political aspects of the new situation in Afghanistan, and confirm the joint commitment to the fight against terrorism.
