Publication of the Statistical Yearbook for 2021. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in numbers

The Statistical Yearbook for 2021 was published today with all the numbers relative to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. This is the document that, every year, illustrates the data most representative of the Farnesina’s commitment at the service of Italy in the world. The volume contains a wide-ranging review of information and statistics useful for understanding the work of the Ministry and its network abroad: numbers relative to structures and resources, detailing the activities performed and the services offered. It is a precious tool for operators in foreign policy, but also for institutional interlocutors and the public at large.

«2020, with its dramatic impact on all of our lives – writes the Secretary General of the Farnesina, Ambassador Ettore Francesco Sequi, in the preface – was an extraordinary stress test, also for the “machinery” of the Foreign Ministry. Our ability to operate on multiple dimensions was stretched to the limit during the pandemic, an emergency of unprecedented dimensions that made a fragile, constantly changing international context even more complicated. In spite of this, the photograms published here present the picture of a dynamic administration, reactive and projected toward the future. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) and its network abroad were present and close to our compatriots at the most dramatic times during this exceptional year, and at the same time, we never lost sight of the need to continue to promote the national policy as a whole and to bring our contribution to the definition of the global agenda, in particular by supporting Italy’s role in the presidency of the G20 in 2021, and partner of the United Kingdom for the organization of the 26th Conference of the United Nations on climate change in Glascow (October (31 – November 12 2021)».

Just to mention a few of the numbers published by the Farnesina relative to 2020, there were 151,000 actions of protection and assistance of Italian citizens abroad, 22 million viewers of pages on the website  www.esteri.it, 5,892 promotional events held by the Embassies and other offices in the world in the sphere of the initiative “VIVERE ALL’ITALIANA” (Living the Italian Way). 6.2 million Italians are listed in the consulate registries, 369,000 entry visas and 222,000 passports were issued, 65,000 people enrolled in Italian language courses at the Italian Institutes of Culture.
