Italy elected Category A member of the Executive Council of the International Maritime Organisation – IMO

The Foreign Ministry expresses deep satisfaction for the re-election of Italy in Category A of the Executive Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for the two-year period 2022-2023, which took place today in London during the XXXII General Assembly of the Organization, which has the task of promoting the development and safety of maritime transport.

The re-election of Italy, which has been an uninterrupted member of the Executive Council since IMO was established in 1948, confirms the prestige that our country enjoys in the maritime sector and testifies to the particular contribution that Italy makes to the development and safety of shipping and the protection of the marine environment.

Category A of the Executive Council comprises the States which, because of the importance of their merchant fleets, provide the greatest impetus to the development of world maritime transport. Italy was elected, with a very broad consensus, along with China, the Russian Federation, Japan, Greece, Norway, Panama, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Korea and the United States.
