From today, 1 February 2022, the Farnesina is providing a new instrument to protect Italians abroad – workers and students, travellers and aid workers, long-term or temporary residents. Each citizen will be able to record their home or place of residence on a map on the www.dovesiamonelmondo.it site, to facilitate intervention in case of need. As the Secretary General, Ambassador Ettore Francesco Sequi, underscored, “this is a new instrument through which the Foreign Ministry is reiterating its intent to act at the service of citizens by exploiting the opportunities opened up by the digital transition. Innovation continues to be one of the cornerstones of our activity”.
Users can easily enter their address and emergency contact details by going to the section for the registration of individual citizens. The Crisis Unit and the diplomatic and consular network will thus be able to react more effectively on a case-by-case basis and using whichever channels are available and possible at any given time.
The service will soon be accessible using the “Crisis Unit” app, available for Android and iPhone. This will make it easier to consult the www.viaggiaresicuri.it site and allow users to report their location in an emergency situation using their phone’s Global Positioning System, or GPS.
