The Farnesina is following with the utmost attention the situation of compatriot Andrea Cisternino, who runs a centre for the protection of stray animals near Kyiv. In particular, within the context of the ongoing activities to assist Italians who are still in Ukraine, the Crisis Unit, in collaboration with the National Animal Protection Agency, has taken action, through contacts with local authorities, to facilitate the arrival of food and veterinary medicines. Since its opening 10 years ago, the “Rifugio Italia Kj2” in Kyiv has been in contact with the Italian Embassy, which recognizes its activities and that, over the years, has supported the relations with local authorities. The facility, in the north of Kyiv, is now in the direction of the Russian armed forces coming from the north. Ambassador Zazo had visited the centre before the start of the conflict. The possibility of supplies arriving in the area is linked to a suspension of the fighting by the belligerents.
