Italian Cooperation has arranged an emergency contribution of over 396,000 euro to the World Food Programme (WFP) in response to the earthquake that struck Afghanistan on 22 June and its consequences. The earthquake hit the provinces of Paktika and Khost in particular, destroying numerous homes in the region and, according to the latest estimates, over 1,000 deaths and nearly 3,000 injuries. The Italian funding will enable the WFP to provide assistance in the food security and humanitarian logistics sectors.
With this initiative, the Italian Government intends to provide concrete support and tangible solidarity to the most vulnerable segments of the Afghan population in this time of great difficulty.
