Civil Protection: Italy will treat another three people injured in explosion in Libya

CROSS will manage the transfer of the patients

The Libyan Air Ambulance carrying three Libyan citizens injured on 1 August 2022 in the explosion of a tank in the Fezzan region has just landed at Pisa’s military airport.

The Medical Evacuation (MedEvac) mission was carried out in close collaboration with the Libyan authorities. It was coordinated by the Civil Protection Department through the Remote Centre for Health Assistance Operations (Italian initials CROSS), working closely with the interforce operations command, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the two countries’ diplomatic missions.
On 6 August Italy took in another four injured Libyans involved in the same incident and being treated in Italian hospitals which had provided beds in specialist wards.

The patients who arrived today — thanks to CROSS, which coordinates MedEvac operations in liaison with regional health personnel — will be transferred and treated by the health services in Piedmont, Liguria and Veneto regions.
