This morning, the Secretary General of the Farnesina, Ambassador Ettore Francesco Sequi, summoned Russian Ambassador Sergey Razov to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation within the framework of a coordinated action with its European Union partners.
Above all, Ambassador Sequi expressed Italy’s firmest condemnation of the sham referendums illegally held by the Russian Federation to annex the occupied territories in the Ukrainian regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia.
The Secretary General of the Farnesina went on to urge Russian authorities to revoke these illegal actions, the result of which Italy does not intend to recognize, and to immediately, completely, and unconditionally withdraw Russian forces from the Ukrainian territory. The threat of resorting to nuclear weapons and the serious violations of the principles and rules of the United Nations Charter seriously undermine global security.
Ambassador Sequi also confirmed Italy’s and Europe’s determination to increase pressuring the Russian Federation to stop the aggression and reaffirmed Italy’s support for the full sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
