The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, is in Brussels today to attend the meeting of the European Union Foreign Affairs Council.

The Council, chaired by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, firstly schedules an exchange of opinions on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. The agenda will continue with a debate on the latest developments in political and security issues in the Western Balkans and with a session dedicated to the African Great Lakes region.

In the light of recent events and at the explicit request of Italy, another point on the agenda will be cooperation on migration flows, with a special focus on the management of rescue operations by privately owned ships and the implementation of effective European solidarity-based mechanisms.

Moreover, on the sidelines of the Council meeting, Minister Tajani is scheduled to have several bilateral meetings, including one with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, and with the Belarus opposition leader in exile, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya.
