Undersecretary Maria Tripodi’s mission to Vietnam concluded

Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Maria Tripodi, concluded her mission to Vietnam to promote Rome’s candidacy to host Expo 2030 today.

Undersecretary Tripodi’s visit is the first politically led mission for Rome Expo 2030 and the first visit by a member of the Italian Government to Vietnam in the year of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. In opening the visit, the Undersecretary presented Rome’s candidacy at a press conference at Casa Italia in Hanoi in front of numerous journalists and private sector representatives. Afterwards, the Undersecretary met the Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs responsible for Europe Le Thi Thu Hang, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Culture Ta Quang Dong, and the President of the Parliamentary Friendship Group Le Tan Toi.

During the meetings, the Undersecretary illustrated the strong points of the candidacy and stressed its priority nature for the Italian government. She also emphasised the underlying theme of Rome’s candidacy – “People and Territories” – and the many opportunities for collaboration between Italy and Vietnam in the economic, cultural and scientific spheres. The Undersecretary also emphasised the inclusive nature of Rome Expo 2030 – a project under the banner of sustainability, innovation and dialogue for the identification of common solutions to the most pressing global challenges.

The Undersecretary also attended a concert to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations at the Hanoi Opera House, with a repertoire of Italian symphonic music and a jazz tribute to Maestro Ennio Morricone, and visited the Ghella company’s construction site for the construction of Hanoi underground line 3 and the Piaggio plant in Vinh Phuc, one of the world’s largest.
