Participation of Undersecretary Maria Tripodi at the 5th UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries – Doha, 5-9 March 2023

Undersecretary Maria Tripodi will represent Italy at the 5th UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in Doha.

The conference, which will be attended by government delegations from more than 150 countries, aims at reviving international solidarity towards LDCs, encouraging the mobilisation of resources and the adoption of measures to facilitate the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals. The work will focus on six priority areas of intervention: combating poverty, investing in technology and innovation, structural reforms, strengthening international trade for LDCs, combating climate change and environmental degradation, and mobilising international solidarity. The Doha Political Declaration, which relaunches international solidarity towards LDCs, will also be adopted.

Undersecretary Tripodi will also take part in the event “Flip the Script – from Potential to Prosperity” – the initiative of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Action Campaign aimed at accelerating progress towards the pursuit of the 2030 Agenda – during which she will reaffirm Italy’s commitment to the protection and empowerment of women and young people.

Lastly, an intense programme of bilateral meetings with LDCs is planned, during which the Undersecretary will reiterate Italy’s solidarity and commitment to taking measures in favour of the countries that are furthest behind on the road to development; she will also promote Rome’s candidacy to host the 2030 Universal Exposition.
