Italian Undersecretary of State Giorgio Silli, representing Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, attended the 28th Ministerial Council of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) held in Guatemala on 11 May, for which Italy is an observer country.
In his speech during the plenary session, Undersecretary Silli highlighted how strengthening relations with Latin America and the Caribbean is a priority for the Italian government, building on renewed cooperation and consolidated friendship between the countries.
During his diplomatic mission, Undersecretary Silli held extensive talks with Guatemalan Minister of Foreign Affairs Mario Bucaro, also as a follow-up to Bucaro’s meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation held in Rome last December. During the event, the main dossiers of bilateral relations were reviewed, consolidating the long-standing friendship between the two countries.
During his stay in Guatemala, Undersecretary Silli held numerous bilateral meetings with political and institutional representatives of the countries of the “Gran Caribe” area, meetings that allowed to address issues of mutual cooperation and to promote Rome’s candidacy for Expo2030.
