Italy Pakistan Joint Economic Commission meeting

Today, Italian Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Maria Tripodi chaired the fifth session of the Italy-Pakistan Joint Economic Commission, the main instrument for deepening the economic partnership between Italy and Pakistan, at the Farnesina. On the Pakistan side, the meeting was chaired by the Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Senator Sherry Rehman.

After an initial session devoted to discussing trade and investment trends, including the opening of a new branch of an ICE office in Pakistan as of 1 June, as well as an assessment of the activities of the AICS in Pakistan, Undersecretary Tripodi and Minister Rehman began the segment devoted to business opportunities, which saw the participation of several companies from the two countries.

At the end of the work, Undersecretary Tripodi and Minister Rehman signed a joint concluding document.

As stated by the Undersecretary, “In renewing Italy’s full commitment to cooperating with Pakistani institutions in order to intensify trade and investments, the high degree of complementarity existing between our two economic systems will enable us to focus on strategic sectors, where Italy can boast globally recognised excellence, such as energy transition. Our dialogue”, Tripodi stressed, “will also extend to the areas of development cooperation, culture and people-to-people exchanges”.
