Ministry of Foreign Affairs Note

The inspection immediately sent by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, to the embassies of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Pakistan to verify the procedures applied in issuing entry visas for Italy has just ended. The precise work of analysing the results of the inspection is underway and the final report of the inspection delegation, supplemented by personnel from the State Police, Carabinieri, and Guardia di Finanza, will be made available to the competent authorities in the coming days.

The initial findings of the inspection work reveal an extremely difficult environment in the countries where the inspection took place, not least because of the large number of false documents that are presented daily to all the embassies of the Schengen countries in order to gain entry to Europe.

“This government has as its priority objective the fight against all forms of illegal entry into Italy”, said Deputy Prime Minister Tajani, adding that: “Irregularities will be countered inflexibly. I have already given precise and more strict instructions to all embassies and consulates to strengthen the fight against all forms of malfeasance to the detriment of our country. That is why it is urgent to continue along the path started by this government also with the political forces in Parliament to give our embassies abroad more resources for this priority action.”

The inspection mission that has just ended is part of a wide-ranging action that Deputy Prime Minister Tajani has intensified, to strengthen the prevention of illegal phenomena and to improve the quality of services rendered to citizens and businesses abroad.
