After the first group of Italians left the Gaza Strip yesterday, a six-year-old Italian girl and her Palestinian mother went through the Rafah crossing this morning. They are now in Egypt, tended by the staff of the Italian Embassy in Cairo for their return to Italy.
“I am glad for the success of the operation that involved this little girl, who will turn six tomorrow, and her mother”, commented Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani. “I would like to thank all the people involved in this operation, from the diplomatic officials in Cairo, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem to our intelligence services which, through the constant coordination of the Farnesina Crisis Unit, achieved this important result”.
Meanwhile, the outflow of foreign citizens from the Gaza Strip to Egypt continues, thanks to the agreement between Israeli and Egyptian authorities. “We are now committed to facilitating the outflow of the Italo-Palestinian citizens and their families, who are currently in Gaza waiting to be evacuated”, stated the Deputy Prime Minister, who also added that “the operations are complex, and Italy is not the only country involved. We are working to secure everyone”.
