Italian Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Maria Tripodi received at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs the Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN, Michael Tene, together with representatives of the Embassies of some ASEAN countries (Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam) in Italy. The meeting is a further step in the already fruitful cooperation of our country with ASEAN, in implementation of the Development Partnership launched at the end of 2020, thanks to which Italy has carried out many training initiatives in favour of South-East Asian countries in several strategic sectors: security, environment, protection of cultural heritage and sustainable development.
“Talking with Deputy Secretary-General Tene, I renewed our common commitment to expanding the Partnership with new projects in areas of common interest, starting with cybercrime, the fight against transnational crime, the promotion of legality, space, food security, energy transition, and the prevention and management of natural disasters”, Undersecretary Tripodi said. “Only together can we effectively address the growing threats to peace, the protection of international order, and sustainable development, as fuelled also by the multiplication of crisis theatres around the world. Indeed, ASEAN represents a model of regional integration in a key geo-strategic position for maintaining peace and shared prosperity in the Indo-Pacific”.
