Today, Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Maria Tripodi opened at Farnesina the proceedings of the International Conference “Engaging the Global South: the role of women in addressing key challenges”, as organised by Aspen Italia and WIIS Italy (Women in International Security) with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The event is part of the “Women in Foreign Policy and Diplomacy” project, which, in conjunction with the Italian G7 Presidency, aims at promoting gender policies to address global challenges such as conflicts, climate change and food insecurity.
“This is an opportunity to enhance the role of women in conflict prevention, management and resolution, humanitarian responses and post-conflict reconstruction,” the Undersecretary stressed, reaffirming the importance of women’s full, effective participation in negotiation processes, with a view to consolidating partnerships with the so-called Global South and in line with the vision of the UN Women, Peace and Security Agenda.
“2025 will see us celebrate the 25th anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325, which gave birth to this forward-looking Agenda and, with the National Action Plan that will see the light next year, Italy intends to continue to be a leading country in all international efforts dedicated to its promotion and implementation,” Tripodi concluded.
