The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, took part today in the mission to Tunisia led by the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, which was also attended by the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, and the Minister of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini.
On the sidelines of the meeting between the President of Tunisia, Kais Saied, and the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, the Deputy Minister signed an agreement to support the Tunisian general budget. The agreement provides for a EUR 50 million aid credit to Tunisia focused on the promotion of energy efficiency and renewable energy, in line with the ELMED project, the first direct current connection between Italy and Tunisia.
In the framework of the initiatives decided by the Joint Committee for Development Cooperation, the Director of European and International Affairs of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti and Chairman of Simest, Pasquale Salzano, also signed the financial agreement for a credit line in favour of Tunisian Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, for which a financing of EUR 55 million is envisaged, also with a view to promoting employment and intervening in the causes of economic migration.
Finally, Deputy Minister Cirielli took part in the talks between the Minister of the Interior Piantedosi and his Tunisian counterpart Kamel Feki.
