Minister Tajani attends the presentation of the “Mediterranea” association (Confagricoltura and Unione Italiana Food)

Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani today received the President of Confagricoltura Massimiliano Giansanti and the President of Unione Italiana Food Paolo Barilla at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for a meeting to discuss the newly established “Mediterranea” association.
“Since the beginning of my mandate, I have wanted to strengthen Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation’s action in support of the Italian agri-food industry by launching numerous promotional and communication initiatives: “Mediterranea” will surely bring new synergies in this field,” commented Tajani, emphasising the excellent results achieved by the sector’s exports in 2023.
“Mediterranea” was set up in January 2024 by Confagricoltura (representing 45% of Italian national agricultural production) and Unione Italiana Food (530 companies and 900 brands). The association aims to identify organisational, technological and industrial models to support a qualitative, nutritional and geographical guarantee of Italian excellence centred on the Mediterranean diet model. “Mediterranea” represents an industry worth 106 billion euro, employing 650 thousand people and involving 2/3 of Italian agricultural enterprises.
