The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, had a telephone conversation today with Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Israel Katz.
“In this delicate phase of the conflict, I called on the Israeli government to put an end to the military action at Rafah, which risks exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip: it is important to continue to work so that negotiations between the parties continue, so that a ceasefire can be reached that will allow the hostages to be freed,” commented the Deputy Prime Minister.
During the conversation, Tajani reiterated to Minister Katz the importance that Italy attaches to the opening of land crossings – with respect to which the maritime corridor is complementary, but not a substitute – allowing humanitarian aid, starting with food and medical aid, to reach the Strip. In this regard, the Government’s commitment to the success of the “Food for Gaza” initiative was confirmed, as well as the attention with which our country, also in the context of the G7 Presidency, intends to continue working to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
