The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation strongly condemns the Russian Federation’s decision to restrict access to broadcasts and websites of several European media outlets – including Italy’s Rai, La7, La Repubblica and La Stampa – on its territory.
We regret the unjustified measure taken against the Italian broadcasters and newspapers, which have always provided objective and impartial information on the conflict in Ukraine. The information provided by these media outlets has been objective, and in any case based on an independent interpretation of the facts following the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation. By choosing to use destructive violence in Ukraine, by choosing to target Ukrainian civilians, cities, power facilities, and technical systems essential to the survival of the Ukrainian people, the leadership of the Russian Federation has committed actions that are contrary to international law and every principle of legality and civilised coexistence. All this will not be erased by imposing bans on Italian and international media and journalists who continue to cover devastating and inhuman actions with professionalism and independence. The decision taken by the Russian Federation does not remove or mitigate the effects of a violent, devastating and illegal war.
