Undersecretary of State Tripodi attends the conference “Diplomacy in International Relations”

The Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Maria Tripodi, spoke at the conference “Diplomacy in International Relations”, held today at Palazzo Giustiniani.

“In an increasingly interconnected and complex world, diplomacy remains the essential instrument for interpreting and addressing global changes and challenges in a perspective of cooperation and mutual understanding”, said Undersecretary Tripodi. “In this context”, she added, “the pillars of our diplomacy, as indicated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani, rest on peacekeeping, growth diplomacy, cultural and scientific diplomacy and legal diplomacy”.

The Undersecretary emphasised that “even in an age characterised by dramatic crises and hitherto unimaginable changes, the traditional objectives of Italy’s action on the international scene remain unchanged: promoting the peaceful resolution of disputes and ensuring the security and stability of the international community”. “By pursuing its historical orientation, Italy will continue to make its contribution to the creation of a more just, prosperous and secure world for all”, Tripodi concluded.

The meeting was also attended, among others, by the President of the Italian Society for International Organisation, Ambassador Riccardo Sessa, and the Rector of the University of International Studies in Rome, Mariangela Russo. The discussion fostered a debate on the meaning and role of diplomacy in an age of growing conflict and scientific innovations whose contours remain partly to be defined and whose scope needs to be regulated.
