As part of the humanitarian actions carried out within the framework of development cooperation, the Italian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of International Cooperation Edmondo Cirielli has approved the contributions for emergency initiatives in Ethiopia, totalling EUR 30 million.
Ethiopia is a strategic partner for Italy and a pilot country of the Mattei Plan. Such initiatives are in line with the strategy adopted by the Italian Cooperation in East Africa and are a further contribution to Italy’s support to the country and to regional stability.
The funding is intended to support the activities of some of the main International Organisations operating in the country in key areas such as disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration of former combatants in the Tigray region, as well as to encourage projects by Italian civil society organisations in the area of food security.
The action implemented by the Italian Cooperation in the country aims to contribute to the humanitarian response to the many emergencies underway, intervening directly on the specific needs in the different regions of the country through the implementation of multi-sectoral projects in line with the humanitarian, development and peace nexus approach.
