Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani will travel to Locarno, Switzerland, on 11-12 August to meet with Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis and to take part in the Diplomacy Day, organised in the framework of the Locarno Film Festival, which sees Italy as the guest country for this edition.
“Cassis and I will have the opportunity to exchange views on the excellent bilateral relationship between our two countries,” stressed Minister Tajani, who added that “in recent years the dialogue between our Governments has intensified, enabling us to find together solutions to open issues, from the dossier on border workers, to the partnership on transport, infrastructure and energy, to the recent signing of a bilateral agreement on migration.”
The meeting is also an opportunity to address the main international issues, starting with the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. “I want to thank the Swiss Government for its important contribution to the mediation efforts aimed at achieving a just peace in Ukraine. The peace summit in Switzerland was an important step forward. Italian support for Kiev is unwavering and at the heart of the Italian G7 Presidency,” the Minister concluded.
Other topical international issues will also be discussed during the visit, from the crisis in the Middle East, with particular regard to the crisis in Gaza and the tensions between Israel and Iran, to the situation in Venezuela, and cooperation on the African continent.
Tajani and Cassis will also hold a joint press point today at 2.15 p.m. at the Palazzo Sopracenerina in Locarno.
