Today, Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani received First Sub-Lieutenant of the Italian Navy Massimiliano Latorre for a private courtesy visit. Latorre was involved in the “Enrica Lexie” ship case in February 2012.
The Minister warmly greeted the marine, recalling with satisfaction the acquittal decided on 30 January 2022 by the Judge for Preliminary Investigations (GIP) in Rome for the two Italian Navy Marines.
Latorre presented the Minister with his book “Il sequestro dei marò” (The Seizure of the Marines) in which he recounts his story as a servant of the state, summarising the legal and personal journey leading to his final acquittal.
Minister Tajani expressed his personal solidarity to Latorre and his family, reaffirming the institutions’ commitment to defend and protect members of the armed forces and police, especially personnel sent on missions abroad in service of the Italian Republic.
