Last night, the first charter flight organised by the Italian Government, at the initiative of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, landed at Rome Fiumicino’s “Leonardo Da Vinci” International Airport, facilitating the return of Italian nationals from Lebanon.
“We have encouraged all Italians to leave Lebanon via commercial flights, and we have worked to increase the availability of these flights through charter services,” said the Minister, explaining how the Government has been collaborating with airlines to address the issue of fully booked commercial flights. “We continue to monitor the situation of Italians in Lebanon through our Embassy in Beirut and the Crisis Unit,” added Deputy Prime Minister Tajani, stressing that “we are ready to take any necessary steps to ensure the safety of our Italian nationals, but for now, we are ruling out the possibility of an evacuation.”
With last night’s flight, 178 Italian nationals returned to Italy. Further charter flights will be organised in the coming days. Italian citizens experiencing difficulties in booking seats on commercial flights from Beirut can contact the Italian Embassy in Beirut (+9613489966) or the Crisis Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (+390636225).
