The Foreign Ministry continues to monitor the situation in the Iberian Peninsula following the extensive power outage, which had a significant impact on airport and long-distance train traffic in Spain and Portugal, as well as widespread restrictions on health and banking services in the two countries.
About 3,600 Italians in Spain (of whom more than 900 non-residents) and about 580 in Portugal (of whom more than 260 non-residents) are currently registered on Dove Siamo nel Mondo.
In Spain electricity has been partially restored in the north and south of the country, while the centre of the country remains without power. Port traffic is regular; air traffic is operational but reduced; long-distance rail traffic is suspended.
The situation in Portugal is more problematic, with a significant impact on hospitals and airports (Lisbon’s is currently closed).
Minister Antonio Tajani, on a mission in Valencia, continues to closely follow the development of the situation, in close connection with the diplomatic and consular offices in the two countries.
The Crisis Unit’s Operations Room, which can be contacted for requests for assistance on +39 0636225, has been further strengthened.
