The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, today paid a visit to the “Piero Fanti” Fucino Space Centre (L’Aquila), currently operated by Telespazio S.p.A.
“Facilities such as the Fucino Space Centre give Italy a competitive edge in the space and satellite systems sector, which is of growing strategic relevance in a wide range of areas, from security to telemedicine, from connectivity to development,” stated the Deputy Minister. He also underlined that the Centre represents a cutting-edge technological excellence, further strengthened by a network of international collaborations with major European partners such as France and Germany.
With its 170 antennas and 370,000 square metres of surface area, the Fucino Space Centre is recognised as the world’s largest and most important civil-use “teleport”. The Centre also hosts the Mission Planning and Control Centre for the COSMO-SkyMed Earth observation satellite constellation, as well as one of the two Control Centres managing the European satellite navigation and localisation system Galileo.
