Deputy Minister Cirielli meets Deputy Prime Minister Gherasimov: support for Moldova’s European path and strengthening of bilateral cooperation

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edmondo Cirielli, met today at the Farnesina with the Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration of Moldova, Cristina Gherasimov. The talks confirmed the excellent state of bilateral relations and the shared commitment to further strengthening the partnership between Rome and Chisinau, within the framework of a solid political dialogue, growing economic relations and increasingly structured sectoral cooperation.

During the meeting, Deputy Minister Cirielli reiterated Italy’s strong support for Moldova’s European path, expressing appreciation for its commitment to the reform process and for the progress made towards the opening of negotiating clusters, in line with the European Commission’s assessments.

On the economic front, the parties explored prospects for cooperation in strategic sectors, including banking, investment and transport infrastructure. The Deputy Minister also highlighted Italy’s contribution to the country’s energy security and support for the Moldovan community in Italy, including through the 2025 Social Security Agreement, as well as Italy’s commitment to development cooperation, with the opening of an AICS office in Chisinau.
