Earthquake in Turkey and Syria. Emergency funding from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation

To address the consequences of the violent earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on 6 February, causing thousands of dead and injured, as well as the damage and destruction of infrastructures and buildings, the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, at the proposal of Minister Tajani and Deputy Minister Cirielli, has allocated two emergency grants worth EUR 1.75 million to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). Of these, EUR 1 million will be used to support the activities of the Turkish Red Crescent, while EUR 750,000 will be given to the Syrian Red Crescent to support activities in the areas of first aid and shelter, sanitation and protection. These funds add to the EUR 1 million already allocated to the Syrian Red Crescent for first aid interventions.
Through these grants, the Italian Government intends to offer initial concrete aid to the populations involved, tangibly demonstrating its solidarity during this particularly difficult time.
