The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, will participate today in Brescia, at around 6:00 p.m., at the National Assembly of Coldiretti.

The meeting will be an opportunity to discuss the strategic role of the agri-food supply chain for economic growth, exports and the international promotion of the Country’s system. In his speech, Tajani will focus on the tensions in the Strait of Hormuz area and the effects that they are having on global supply chains, from energy costs to fertilisers, to maritime transport and packaging materials, with a direct impact on the competitiveness of the European agri-food sector. The Minister will also explain the Italian Government’s commitment to strengthening the resilience of supply chains and diversifying outlet markets through the EU’s trade policy and free trade agreements with strategic partners, also in order to protect Geographical Indications and combat the phenomenon of Italian sounding.

Agri-food is still one of the main drivers of Italian exports, accounting for 11% of national exports. In 2025, the sector reached a record value of EUR 70.9 billion, with an increase of 5.2% compared to 2024. In support of the sector, the 2026 programming carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Italian Trade Agency includes more than 240 initiatives dedicated to agri-food, including international fairs, incoming foreign operators and promotional events in the main strategic markets. The action will be accompanied by the internationalisation support instruments developed with SIMEST and SACE, with particular attention to the enhancement of PDO and PGI excellence and the competitiveness of Italian companies in global markets.
