A workshop dedicated to opportunities for Italian companies to participate in the United Nations procurement system took place this morning at the Foreign Ministry. The workshop, organized in collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP), saw the participation of the other UN agencies in Rome, namely FAO and IFAD. The works, opened by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, fostered a greater understanding of the procurement procedures of the World Food Programme and other UN agencies, with specific reference to the agri-food, logistics, and transport sectors, with a view to facilitating Italian companies’ access to tenders for the supply of goods and services for humanitarian and development programmes, thus strengthening the contribution of the Italian production system to multilateral initiatives.

The workshop was attended, amongst others, by the Minister’s Ecclesiastical Advisor, Monsignor Marco Malizia; WFP Assistant Executive Director for Partnerships and Innovation, Rania Dagash-Kamara; Italy’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Rome, Ambassador Bruno Archi; and the Director General for Development Cooperation, Stefano Gatti.

In his remarks, Minister Tajani thanked the companies that participated in the Food for Gaza and Italy for Sudan initiatives, emphasizing the crucial role of the Italian private sector in the success of the humanitarian missions promoted by the Foreign Ministry. He also expressed his hope for increasingly broader corporate involvement in future humanitarian assistance initiatives.

Italy is working closely with the UN agencies headquartered in Rome, thanks to the daily activity of the Italian Cooperation, which has made the promotion of food security and sovereignty one of its strategic goals.
