Italy has signed, together with France, Germany, Greece, Malta, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States, a joint declaration welcoming the agreement reached on 20 August in Tunis by the Libyan parties on the reconstitution of the Council of the National High Electoral Commission and on the electoral framework.

The agreement, the result of a path started with the first meeting in Rome and continued in Tunis, represents an important step toward inclusive and transparent national elections and unified institutions. Italy reaffirms its support for the United Nations’ efforts for a Libyan-led political process.
