The fifth round of bilateral political consultations between Italy and Kuwait took place today, co-chaired by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edmondo Cirielli, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait, Hamad Suleiman Mashaan Al-Mashaan.

The session centred on a discussion of bilateral relations, which are becoming increasingly close – particularly in the fields of defence, investment promotion and energy – and are characterised by high-level political meetings. Cooperation between Rome and Kuwait in the defence sector plays a central role, against the backdrop of the delicate regional context in which Italy is strongly committed to stability in the Gulf and freedom of navigation.

The discussions then turned to relations between the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council, as well as regional issues such as the situation in Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and the Palestinian question: the Deputy Minister reaffirmed Italy’s long-standing commitment to peace, economic development and humanitarian aid for the population.
