To mark the 17th European Football Championship, which this year will be held in Germany, the Italian Cultural Institute of Munich has organised an exhibition dedicated to football entitled Deutschland-Italien: ein Klassiker. Fußballsticker erzählen die Geschichte der EM, meaning Germany-Italy: a classic. The history of the European Football Championship through stickers.
The ad-hoc project is a combination of narrative and visuals that covers all editions of the European Championship, from its origins to the present day, with several focuses on the German and Italian national teams and their players. The exhibition will also include sections dedicated to the teams of Munich, Bayern Munich and 1860 Munich, to offer visitors an extraordinary gallery of players capable of mixing the passion of the present with the charm of the past.
The exhibition, which will open to the public on 13 June, is set up as a visual and narrative tale that, through stickers, albums, cards and material worshipped worldwide, introduces us to events and personalities that have remained imprinted in people’s collective memory. The history of football, which can be a surprising and fascinating discovery for the new generations, is flanked by a format that, precisely through this material, allows us to investigate other creative expressions such as graphics and illustrations.
