To celebrate International Women’s Day, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, announced that the Meeting Room of the Directorate General for Italians Abroad will be named after Ambassador Carla Zuppetti.
Carla Zuppetti served as Director General for Italians Abroad from 2008 to 2012 and, throughout her career, mainly performed consular functions in Countries with a large number of Italian emigrants such as Germany and Switzerland. She was appointed Vice Consul to Basel; Chargée d’Affaires ad interim of the Consulate General in Leningrad; Consul in Frankfurt; Counsellor for Emigration in Paris and Ambassador to Berne, where she died on duty.
It is the first time that a Hall of the Foreign Ministry is named after a female diplomat; with this gesture, the Ministry intends to honour the memory of an Ambassador who spent her career life at the service of the State and especially of all the Italians abroad.
