The task force from the Crisis Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has arrived in Kathmandu, together with staff from the Embassy of Italy in New Delhi, who were sent on the instructions of Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani to strengthen Italy’s diplomatic presence on site and provide assistance to Italian nationals. The Italian staff is also on site to try to obtain information on the status of the three Italian nationals who are still missing.
The teams will coordinate the work of the Honorary Consulate of Italy in Kathmandu and work in liaison with local authorities, continuing the activities of assistance to Italian nationals and the verifications in the landslide areas on the border between Nepal and the Tibetan region of China.
Meanwhile, there is still a risk of further flooding in the areas on the Nepal-China border. In advising the utmost caution, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges Italian nationals currently in or travelling to the area to avoid the affected zones, in particular the Gyirong border crossing (Gyirong County) in Shigatse Prefecture, to keep themselves constantly informed and to strictly adhere to the instructions of the local authorities.
We also invite Italian nationals in the area to register their presence on the ‘Dove siamo nel mondo’ (Where we are in the world) portal, to visit the ‘Viaggiare Sicuri’ (Travel Safely) website and to download the ‘Viaggiare Sicuri’ app of the Crisis Unit to receive updates and notifications regarding the situation.
